How to Add Animals to a Batch

Add Members puts each animal in your batch on its own record. You can add one animal at a time, create many with a naming pattern, or import a spreadsheet. Once they are in, each animal has a profile with its price, weight and health history.

Who it's for: farmers who track each animal, not just a head count. Plan: adding one animal works on every plan, capped at 5 animal profiles per farm on Starter; Add Multiple and Import File need the Growth plan or higher. Time: about 4 minutes.

What you need first

• A farm account and a batch where you track each animal individually.
• For Import File, a list of your animals in a CSV or Excel file.

Step-by-step

Step 1: Open the add screen

Right after you create a batch, the add screen opens on its own. Later, open the batch, tap "Batch Members", then tap "Add Members". You can also open the menu on the batch card and choose "Add Members to".

The title reads "Add to" followed by your batch name. Three tabs sit at the top: "Add One", "Add Multiple" and "Import File". "Add One" opens first.

Step 2: Add one animal

Type a name or tag number in "Name / Tag". Tap "Select Breed" and pick a breed. If the list is empty, tap "Create Breed" and add yours, for example Boer.

Then choose the gender, Female or Male, and the stage. The stage options follow the species. For goats they include Kid, Doe and Buck.

Step 3: Add the details

Tap "Add details" to open the optional fields: cost, "Current Weight", "Birth Date", "Mother (Dam)" and "Father (Sire)". Each parent can be on the farm, external or unknown.

The cost also goes into your finances as an expense. Skip any field you do not know. You can edit the animal later.

Step 4: Save and add the next one

Tap "Save & Add Another". The app confirms with a message such as "1 member added". The name, note and photo clear, but breed, gender and stage stay. Change only what differs for the next animal, for example the gender.

On the last animal, tap "Save and exit". You land on the "Batch Members" list.

Step 5: Add many animals at once

Open the "Add Multiple" tab. Enter how many animals you want, up to 500. Set a naming prefix and start number. The preview shows the names it will create.

Choose what the animals share, such as breed and stage. Set gender to "Mixed (auto-distribute)" and the app splits it between male and female for you. Tap "Create 10 Members", where 10 is your count.

The new animals arrive as drafts. Tap "Confirm All" on the "Batch Members" list to keep them.

Step 6: Import animals from a file

Open the "Import File" tab. It takes CSV or Excel files, up to 1000 rows. Tap "Download Sample Template" and start from that file so the columns match. The name or tag and the gender columns are required.

Upload the file, map the columns, and check the validation. Imported animals show as "Pending Review". Tap "Confirm All" to keep them.

Step 7: Open an animal's profile

In "Batch Members", the totals sit at the top, with a search box and a row for each animal. Tap a row to open "Profile".

You see the animal's age, price, weight and parents, plus Report, Health and Timeline sections. Use the menu to change the photo, choose "Edit Profile", or mark the animal sold, harvested or dead.

Common mistakes

• Leaving out the gender or name. Each animal needs both, or the save fails with a short error. Breed and stage are easy to skip, so check them before you save.
• Counting profiles per batch. The Starter limit of 5 animal profiles applies to the whole farm, not to each batch.
• Forgetting Confirm All. Animals from Add Multiple or Import File stay as drafts until you confirm them.
• Filling a large form before checking your plan. Add Multiple and Import File need the Growth plan. Check that before you enter a long list.
• Importing with your own column layout. Start from the sample template. Delete its example rows and enter your own animals.

Frequently asked questions

How many animals can I add at once?

Add Multiple creates up to 500 animals in one go. Import File accepts up to 1000 rows per import.

Can I add animals in bulk on the free plan?

No. Add Multiple and Import File need the Growth plan or higher. On the Starter plan you add animals one at a time, up to 5 animal profiles per farm.

Do I have to fill in every field?

No. Each animal needs a name or tag and a gender. Cost, weight, birth date, parents and supplier are optional, and you can add them later by editing the profile.

Why do my imported animals say Pending Review?

Imported and multi-created animals arrive as drafts so you can check them first. Tap Confirm All to keep them in the batch.
